What Does Your Network Marketing Prospect Really Want
A frequent response I get when I ask someone why they decided to pursue a home-based business is that they really need more money, or they want to be wealthy, or they want to achieve financial freedom.
Oftentimes, this is not at all what they desire.
An old friend told me when I was younger that MONEY IS A FORM OF ENERGY.
Consider that for a moment.
Let us say you inquire of someone what would make their lives better or more enjoyable. The person replies, “Electricity. I really want more electricity. Electricity would make my life better and more enjoyable.”
So, you hand them a couple batteries. So now they have extra electricity in their lives. Does that satisfy their needs?
Is that something that makes their life more enjoyable?
Of course it won’t. What they actually want is electricity FOR THE PURPOSE OF running a toaster, the television, the computer, lights, the washer and dryer, and all of the other things that make our lives better and more convenient.
Money is like batteries. It only has POTENTIAL energy.
You CANNOT hold electricity, and you CANNOT hold money.
You can grip a battery.
And you can grip a piece of paper or a metal coin.
But if you place both on a desk and leave them there, neither of will improve your life.
It is what we DO with that POTENTIAL energy that makes a difference in our lives.
When your prospect tells you that they need to earn more money, or that they want to be rich, then are they have a certain picture in their mind about what that will be like. They could picture a bigger house, a nicer automobile, freedom from their current job, or spending more time with their friends.
THAT is what you need to find out about your prospect.
THEN you can back into how much income that will require.
When I first got involved in network marketing, it was not to make millions of dollars. I really wanted to get my freedom from a company job.
I imagined myself basking on the front porch enjoying a cup of coffee while all the employees were sitting in traffic drinking coffee from a paper cup. I saw myself going on vacation whenever it suited me, without having to ask for permission or carefully leveraging vacation time around four-day weekends. I saw myself shopping for and enjoying the holiday season while everyone else was stressed because of the tight schedules they had due to work requirements.
That’s what I imagined for MY own business.
What is your prospect’s vision?
What does their life LOOK like once they have become financially independent? What are they struggling with now that running a home business could give them freedom from? What do they need MORE of that owning their own business could get them?
Very often, it does NOT take a LOT of cash for your prospect to achieve their vision!
Most people neither need nor want a huge house or an expensive luxury car. The majority of people do not participate in boating enough to want a fast speedboat. Many do not want an exclusive country club membership. Many would not know where they’d travel to even if they owned their own helicopter.
Once they IMAGINE the life they would like, many will NOT see themselves living the life of a king or a queen with all the gilded robes and palaces.
They will imagine themselves at the park with their kids on a gorgeous summer day. They will imagine themselves fishing on a clear Friday morning. They will imagine themselves sleeping in late. They will imagine themselves golfing or going to a baseball game with family and friends. They will see themselves spending the holiday season without any stress over finances.
Your prospect has things they LOVE to DO.
What if you could help them get more of THOSE things?
When you are discussing your prospect’s future, jot down their vision. Repeat it back to them to make sure you’ve got it right. Then email it to them so that they have a copy of it.
Then help them ACHIEVE that ambition!
