Installing Central Heat and Air in an Older Home
Have you recently purchased an older home without a central heat and air system? What we accept as a necessity was considered a luxury only a few years ago. Some older homes will have stand alone air conditioning units and perhaps an open fire but very few have a full modern heating and air conditioning system already installed. Unless of course it has recently changed hands and the new owners upgraded.
Using a professional HVAC company such as Hatfield Heating and Air in Sumter means that you do not have any concerns regarding installing a new central heat and air conditioning system into an older home. Yes it is slightly more complicated than when a home is designed with the HVAC system worked into the plans but it is doable. Make sure you sit down with the contractor and work out exactly what you want to achieve from your new system before any work starts.
You may want a furnace which is located in the basement or garage. Or perhaps you would prefer a heat pump. A furnace based system will heat air which is pumped through your home via a system of ducts. A heat pump will force air through the ducts extracting heat from the outside during winter and inside during summer. Heat pumps tend to be the more effective system and over the longer term offer lower costs. You can add air conditioning to either type of system. In split level homes the contractor will need to find space to place the air ducts but it sounds more complicated than it is in practice.
Most people will choose to install as flexible a system as possible so that their changing needs can be easily catered for. HVAC technology is improving all the time and new energy sources being discovered so you want to be able to move with the times. Dealing with a professional contractor will enable you to do this as they will keep you up to date with any relevant changes when they come to do the annual service.
